About Amityville, Suffolk County, NY

The village of Amityville, New York is located in Suffolk County on Long Island’s South Shore. It is bordered to the south by Great South Bay, to the south and east by Copiague, by North Amityville to the north and by East Massapequa to the west

At the time of the 2010 census, the population of the village was 9,523, with 81.7% White and 9.7% African American. There were 1,982 families and 3,107 households. The median household income was $74,366.

Amityville is well-known as the setting of the novel The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson and the subsequent films that were made. They were based on real-life murders that took place in the village in 1974. The house was said to be haunted. It was renovated and its address was changed to discourage visitors.
