Out of the 10 towns found in Suffolk County, NY, Brookhaven is the most populated. It is part of the NY metropolitan area and is located about 50 miles away from Manhattam. History Of Brookhaven

Previously, the settlement of Brookhaven was known as Setauket. It was founded in the mid17th century by agricultural hamlets. The first English settlers arrived in Brookhaven in 1640. It became a province in New York in 1664. In the 19th century, it expanded as a major center of shipbuilding. Since it was close to New York City, Brookhaven allowed the creation of resort communities. There was also a post-war boom in the population.

By 2010, the Census recorded 486,040 people living in Brookhaven. The city is home to Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University, 2 of the most renowned research centers.
