About Bellport, Suffolk County, NY
Bellport is a village that is found in the county of Suffolk in New York. The village gained its name from the Bell family who were among the early settlers of the area. The area is on the Southern shore of Long Island in the town of Brookhaven. The official name of the area is Incorporated Village of Bellport.
The geographical information about Bellport, Suffolk County, NY is, it is located on latitude point 40°45’25″N and longitude point 72°56’30″W. The total area if the village according to the United States Census Bureau is 4.0 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). The area covered by land is 3.7 square kilometers (1.4 square miles). 5.97% of the total area is water; it makes up 0.2 square kilometers (0.077 square miles).
According to the census statistics of 2000, Bellport had 2,363 people, 684 families and 993 households. The population density at the time was 1,619.7 people per square mile.
The village at the time had multiple races living there, 95.13% of people were white, 1.27% were African American. 0.38% consisted of Native American, 0.08% were Pacific Islanders, 1.65% were of Asian origin. Latinos or Hispanics of any race made up 1.27% of the population, 0.21% were from other races.
In the 993 households, 23.0% had children less than 18 years of age living with them. 38.4% were married couples living together with their children, 7.8% were single family setups with the female being present with no husband. 31.1% featured non families, just individuals living alone or together. 24.5% had individuals living in them, 12.5% of the houses had someone who was 65 years or older living alone. The average family size was 2.86 and the average household size was 2.38.
